Welcome to Otaku.CollectionDX.com where we bring you the best in Figures, Anime, Live Action and other Otaku Goodness

WHAT IS OTAKU?

Otaku is the Japanese term for “Super Fan” or “Obsessed Maniac”. Traditionally, the term means “house”, but it was adopted as a term for those in Japanese culture who were Obsessed fans of a specific thing. You can have Train Otaku, Militaria Otaku, Gundam Otaku and even Baseball Otaku. Being an Otaku in Japan wasn’t always easy due to a negative stereotype of being a shut-in (not to mention some high-profile crimes by Otaku in the 80s). But now Otaku Culture is celebrated in Japan, and is considered a Cultural Commodity.

In the US, Otaku has come to mean a fan of Japanese Anime, Manga, Figures and other pop culture.

WHAT HAPPENED TO ANIME.COLLECTIONDX.COM?

Anime.CollectionDX (ACDX) began as a means to cover a different kind of product from the robots and action figures covered on our parent site, CollectionDX.com. Originally that product was strictly Figures and Anime, but as our focus expanded we realized the Anime misnomer was misleading. As the software running the site had run its course and was due for an upgrade, we figured it was time for a rebranding.
