Kaleido Star is full of stunts that defy gravity, and performances that make you wonder, ‘How is that possible,’ and wait for it… a baby seal. Ever since she was a little girl Sora had dreamed of joining the Kaleido Stage, a circus she had been going to since she was a little girl. When she gets the chance, she immediately leaves Japan for auditions, even when her family doesn’t approve. As she barely makes it in, she starts to see Fool, the Spirit of the Stage. He’s only the size of an action figure, but can tell the future through tarot cards. Apparently, only Sora can see him because she is destined to do great things, but soon others notice his presence. But in season 2, I have to say it’s almost stereotypical that the male lead starts ignoring her, and she has to fight to stay on top.
What I really loved about this anime was that it’s actually pretty realistic in its own way, like how Sora had started her career selling toys and such, and slowly makes it to where she wants to be. I was really happy, because I guess you could say this anime didn’t disappoint me.
This anime is great for anyone of any age, although I’d say it would probably interest younger kids. Season 1 and 2 both have four discs, with the option of turn on Japanese stereo and adding subtitles. Kaleido Star is put out by Funimation and is now available.
