sphere -- they never capitalize it -- is a J-pop group consisting of four girls who are also voice actresses: Haruka Tomatsu, Minako Kotobuki, Ayahi Takagaki and Aki Toyosaki. The four girls voice the four main characters on the anime series Natsuiro Kiseki, in addition to voicing anime characters in other series and movies. They are managed by Sony Music Entertainment's Music Ray'n subdivision, under the Lantis music label GloryHeaven. The majority of their songs are theme songs for various anime films and series.

"Pride On Everyday" is the new ending theme song for the series Bakuman. Musically, it's upbeat J-pop with blazing rock guitars, glimmering synth, super fast drums, some fine bass playing and layers and layers of perfectly harmonized vocals. If you just heard the instrumental version of the song and had to guess which group you were listening to you'd probably guess AKB48 or one of their many sub-groups. The tempo truly is that fast and the vocals are certainly that sunshiny. It's hard to believe that the song is nearly five minutes long because it feels like it's over in two. It just doesn't slow down at all, not for a second. Which only helps to make it that much more addictive. It's one of those thrilling, manic J-pop songs that you'll want to listen to over and over again.

The B-side is entitled "ワタシ♪NOTEと#ペンシル," which Google translates as "# Pencil with me ♪ NOTE." I'm not quite sure what to make of that, but it's certainly catchy. It might be a few beats per minute slower than "Pride On Everyday," but that means it's only slightly less ferocious. The obvious difference between the songs seems to be that this has programmed beats, whereas "Pride On Everyday" sounds like it has live drums. But that really doesn't make a difference -- both songs are immensely catchy and bursting with sugary, well-layered vocals and dazzling synth.

This single also features instrumental versions of both tracks. -Michael McCarthy
