NYCC 2012: Cosplay

Lets be honest, one of the main reasons to come to a convention is for the cosplay. These super fans put so much work and dedication into their costumes. I often wonder if I would ever be brave enough to go to a con in a costume. It's an interesting cross section of fandom for sure. So lets look through some of the cosplay we caught at the 2012 New York Comic Con.

Initially I felt awkward about taking pictures of people in costume. Often I found myself piggybacking off of someone elses shots. I thought, if I was cosplaying, I would hate not being able to walk around without being asked to pose for a photo. Then I remind myself that these people are here BECAUSE of the attention. Once I was able to loosten up I got some great shots.

Bane, Catwoman, and some guy.
They get points for doing the comic version of Bane, and I can't imagine having to wear that mask all through the con.

Doctor Doom vs Iron Man
The Doom costume was great, and we'll give Iron Man an A for effort.

Wonder Woman
Wonder why you would choose this costume, woman? It's not doing you any favors.

I think these two are from the web comic HOMESTUCK

Tetra from Legend of Zelda - The Wind Waker
Not sure who the warriors around her are.

Minecraft
Yes, there were a lot of Minecraft costumes this year.

I got nothing on this one, sorry.

Magneto
This guy did a good Magneto, although I'm pretty sure it's bought instead of made.

Robin
This was a very classy female robin. Well done.

Yoko and Kamina from Gurren Lagann
I didn't know wether to take their picture or check for ID. Still, super good cosplay, and she's got a killer smile.

Game of Thrones
I'm sure I would be more excited about this if I watched the show.

Goofy as seen in Kingdom Hearts 2

Mimmy from No More Heroes 2
I admit, I had to ask who this was, but I loved the giant hands.

Doctor Strange
The contact lenses were freaking me out

Mass Effect
I've just started playing the first Mass Effect game, and I can totally see why people are so into it.

Kingpin from Daredevil
This guy made a GREAT Kingpin. I was actually intimidated by him. He had presence.

The Flash
Not sure what version of the Flash this was, but he looked great.

Drunk Santas
Maybe my favorite cosplay of the con.

Hsien-Ko from Darkstalkers

Devil May Cry

Various Avengers, including the TaskMaster!
Now that's obscure.

Poison Ivy and the Riddler

Deadpool
This Deadpool had a working amplifier and was rocking out outside the show floor.

Zatana

Batgirl, Batman and the Penguin
This was really cool - not only is it classic TV Batman, but it's a nod to the super-cheesy Batman movie where he used anti-shark spray to ward off sharks.

Spider-Man and Iron Fist
Spider Man was limber!

Haha. Drunken Santas. That would explain why I have not been getting what I want for Xmas.

Glad you liked my Dr. Doom costume...
I had a blast wearing it, and I'm eagerly planning next year's costume!
